Over 100 members from home and overseas gathered at the University of York at the end of March for the UK Branch Annual Meeting, celebrating its 57th Anniversary.

A new approach to the format of the Meeting was successfully introduced and agreed by all to provide a framework for the future by dividing the meeting into four themed sessions each commencing with an invited paper followed by four submitted papers.

The first days' sessions concentrated on Bird Welfare and Nutrition, followed by the 21st Annual Robert Fraser Gordon Memorial Lecture and the WPSA Annual Dinner. This year's lecture was given by Professor Grahame Bulfield whose topic was "Poultry breeding in the post-genomic era". After the Branch AGM, the final morning's sessions were on Enzymes and on aspects of Broiler Production.

The traditional poster discussion session this year took place at the posters, providing another useful session.

At the conclusion of the Meeting, the two Annual President's Awards were presented.

Members commented on the high quality of the papers presented, a tribute to the authors and to the Programme Committee under Dr Paul Rose.

Next year's Annual Meeting will, once again, be held at the University of York and will take place on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th April 2004.
