Following the success of last years initiative by the UK Branch, Council have decided to offer a further two Undergraduate Summer Vacation Scholarships in 2002. Applicants do not need to be current members of WPSA, so members are asked to draw this to the attention of students who may not be aware of the initiative and who might benefit from it. These Scholarships offer generous help to two students to further their interest in poultry science during the 2002 summer vacation.
First introduced last year, they resulted in the Association being able to fund two undergraduates who each undertook a poultry research project during the 2001 summer vacation:
- Juliet Lay, currently studying for a B.Sc. Agriculture with Animal
Science at Harper Adams University College, produced an excellent report
on The development of the digestive tract in fast and slow-growing
strains of turkeys and chickens.
- Karen McGonigle, who has now completed her B.Sc. (Hons) Human Nutrition course at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, studied The effects of Annattoo (Bix Orellana) and Yucca Schidegera on cholesterol content and yolk colour of eggs.
Both of these papers will be included in the programme of the WPSA UK Branch Annual Meeting at the University of York on 9th and 10th April.
