Autumn 2004 Newsletter : Your Association and You

A World's Poultry Congress year is probably a good time to review what WPSA does for its members and, in particular, to draw attention to the activities of the UK Branch.

Formed in 1912, the stated aim of the Association is to promote the advancement of knowledge of all aspects of poultry science and the poultry industry. It operates on behalf of about 6400 members through 40 Branches covering the World and it seeks to encourage the exchange of information between scientists in all fields of research, education and the industry by the organization of international conferences and events, the sponsorship of students and the production of the highly regarded World's Poultry Science Journal.

Our own UK Branch holds a world-class Annual Scientific Meeting, normally attended by an impressive 30% of our members, as well as biennial single topic Poultry Science Symposia (see below). Its members are represented on most of the 13 European Working Groups (see some reports on page 11), which hold regular specialist meetings and conferences, and it takes its turn in organizing European Poultry Conferences. It also encourages students to take an interest in poultry science by awarding prizes for presentations at the Annual Meeting and by offering Summer Vacation Scholarships....and it does much more besides! If you think that all of this is worth just £20 per annum for Individual Members (and £10 for Students), then tell your friends and colleagues.
