Branch Annual Meeting returns to Scarborough
After a brief excursion across the Pennines from Yorkshire into Lancashire, the UK Branch 2008 Annual Meeting will return to Yorkshire for our forty-second Annual Meeting next spring. On 1/2 April we return to the Spa Complex in Scarborough where we held some of our most successful meetings in the eight years between 1993 and 2000. Built in the 1880s and much improved since, the Spa Complex offers excellent and spacious facilities for both WPSA and our partners BSAS, and members will certainly find it beneficial to be meeting together again in the same complex..
Access by road is good and there is a direct rail link from York on the East Coast Main Line. The Spa Complex is situated right on the sea wall overlooking the South Bay, a magnificent and bracing setting and there are many hotels in all categories within easy walking distance. Scarborough itself is an interesting resort town with seafront, harbour, shops and restaurants and many other local attractions and is the ideal place to bring partners or family members along for a breath of spring air.
The 2008 Annual Meeting will be organized by a new Committee and a number of innovations are planned, so now is the time to make a note of this important date in the WPSA year. Now also is the time to think about submitting a paper or poster for presentation at the meeting. Full details on how to do this can be found on pages 5 and 6 of this Newsletter.
Important notice to all members:John Parsons retires as UK Branch Secretary at the 2008 AGM after completing the maximum eight years allowed under the Constitution. The Branch is therefore looking for a new Secretary and invites nominations (see page 4). This is a spare/part time job, carries a modest honorarium and offers great opportunities for close contact with poultry scientists both at home and overseas.
