Autumn 2005 Newsletter : Secretary's File
Membership
UK Branch membership remains steady at 312 members which is broadly in line
with numbers over recent years and is encouraging in the light of the continued
decline in UK poultry science and in WPSA membership worldwide.
Two new members have joined the Branch since our Summer Newsletter. We welcome
them and hope that they find membership useful and rewarding:
Mr Richard Allison, Poultry World, London.
Mr Salim Msellem, Farmers Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
It remains vitally important that we take every opportunity to recruit new members in an effort to stem a rising annual deficit and to avoid the possibility of future subscription increases. Please use all your persuasive powers to encourage new members from among your work colleagues or fellow students. Full details are available on our web sitewww.wpsa-uk.com or in hard copy from the Branch Secretary (see back page for contact details).

UK Branch Summer Vacation Scholarships 2006
Please see the enclosed notice about these awards which are worth up to £1000
per student. In order to promote them, we are also sending a poster to those
whom we believe are in a position to make students more aware of this opportunity.
Therefore, if there is a poster included with your Newsletter, please display
it on a prominent and appropriate Notice Board and draw the attention of any
eligible students to it.
Thank you.
Have you any early back issues of the WPSJ ?
David Martin, Editor of the World’s Poultry Science Journal, is looking
for copies of Vols 1 – 10 of the WPSJ, dated 1947 – 1956. Single
copies are held in Beekbergen but it is necessary to send copies away to be
taken apart and scanned for the new WPSJ on-line archive. It is obviously unwise
to let go of the only remaining copies of these volumes so he needs duplicates
urgently.
If you can help, please contact David on martin@franlyn.fsnet.co.uk
