Autumn 2000 Newsletter : WPSA UK Branch Annual Meeting

10-11 April 2001

The Annual Meeting and AGM are important events in the life of the Association. Past experience suggests that, providing a superb mixture of scientific, social and business activities, next spring's events should really not be missed.

New venue

After eight enjoyable and successful years in Scarborough, Branch Council has endorsed the Programme Committee's recommendation that the 2001 Annual Meeting will move, together with BSAS, to York. Easier to get to by rail (and an hour nearer to everywhere by road!), the new venue will be on the superb and modern campus of the University of York. It is expected that this will offer delegates a more integrated event with the major benefit of everybody being on one site. Having both excellent conference facilities and good quality accommodation, York offers sufficient space for WPSA and BSAS to meet both together and separately over the two days, and one night, of the Meeting.

Programme

The main topic for discussion this year will be the important issue of "Alternatives to anti-microbials in non-ruminant feeds". This will be the subject of a joint WPSA/BSAS symposium where papers from a number of invited international speakers will be featured. Commencing at 11am on Tuesday 10 April, the WPSA Meeting will run through until lunchtime on Wednesday 11 April. The mini-symposium will occupy Tuesday afternoon followed at 5pm by the Gordon Memorial Lecture and Reception preceding the Branch Annual Dinner in the evening. This year's Robert Fraser Gordon Memorial Lecturer will be Professor Ian Duncan of the University of Guelph, Ontario.

Papers and Posters

Members are now invited to submit papers and/or posters for consideration by the Programme Committee. These may be on the topic of "Alternatives to anti-microbials in non-ruminant feeds" or on other topics relating to poultry science.

The deadline for submission of papers and posters to Dr Paul Rose is 30 November 2000 and this will be strictly adhered to.

Annual General Meeting

The Branch AGM will be held at 10.10am on Wednesday 11 April 2001, immediately following the BSAS Sir John Hammond Memorial Lecture. This year two Council Members offer themselves for re-election and there is one additional vacancy. Co-opted Treasurer Dr Paul Hocking also offers himself for election as Branch Treasurer following the sad death of Norrie Semple.
